Veterans Day Services to be held on Hero Street November 11th

The City of Silvis has announced that it will hold it's annual Veterans Day service on Hero Street, Tuesday, November 11th at 11:00 a.m. Veterans Day and Memorial Day are both designed to celebrate members of the U.S. military, but there are a few key differences. Memorial Day , which took shape after the Civil War, is considered a day to honor those who were killed in or as a result of participating in battle. Veterans Day , which materialized at the end of World War I, is a day to honor all service men and women, but especially those who remain with us to share their experiences. Advance Tickets for the premiere of  The Last to Fall from Hero Street: John Muños' Story,  Part 9 in Kelly and Tammy Rundle's Emmy-nominated  Hero Street  documentary film series, are now available to purchase at Putnam.org.  (just click on this link to purchase tickets) . Advance ticket purchases are encouraged, as these events tend to sell out. The film premieres on  Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.  on the  Putnam Museum's National Geographic Giant Screen Theater,  1717 W 12th Street in Davenport, Iowa. A Q&A with film participants will follow the screening. "A Bridge Too Far From Hero Street: William Sandoval's Story" screens Sept. 30 at Davenport Library--Fairmount Branch

The award-winning documentary “A Bridge Too Far From Hero Street: William Sandoval's Story" will screen on Tuesday evening, September 30th at the Davenport Public Library--Fairmount Branch , 3000 N. Fairmount St., Davenport. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Q&A with Emmy award-winning filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films .  “A Bridge Too Far From Hero Street"  follows William Sandoval's journey from a boxcar in Silvis, Illinois to a battle in a forest in Holland. Born into an impoverished family of twelve, Willie performed migrant farm work alongside his parents and siblings until his father took a job with the Rock Island Railroad. The largest daytime air assault of World War II was Operation Market Garden, Sept. 17, 1944. William Sandoval was among them. Kelly and Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films will present their Emmy® nominated “Hero Street” Documentary Film Series as an ENCORE celebration of the  100 th  Anniversary of the Silvis Public Library.   The Emmy® Award-winning filmmakers will screen  four parts  from their documentary series on  Saturday, September 27th, 1 p.m.-4 p.m .  at the McGehee Center, Schadt Park, 1043-4 th  Avenue, Silvis.  A Q&A with the Rundles will take place during the event.  Sponsored by Royal Neighbors Chapter 20167.
